103 Colmore Row

Delivering ultra-resilient connectivity to the tallest office building in Birmingham

Client: Sterling Property Ventures & Tristan Capital Partners
Solution: Node Connect & Converge building networks

The Challenge

103 Colmore Row is a landmark development – 230,084 sq ft of Grade A office space over 26 floors, with a stunning top floor restaurant at the very centre of Birmingham’s bustling business district. A 108-metre-high statement of ambition, scale and sustainability, occupiers range from legal and insurance firms to real estate consultancies and managed workspace operators.

With no unified approach to building services connectivity, the development team at Sterling Property Ventures and Tristan Capital Partners needed a world-class digital infrastructure with security and resiliency to the fore, for its flagship asset.

The Solution

Node delivered their service in two stages. Node Connect, a fully managed, resilient, multi-occupier fibre infrastructure across the entire building simplified connectivity and ensured day-one readiness for occupiers. The subsequent introduction of Node’s Converge network facilitated all network connectivity for the building’s services, removing the inefficiencies of fragmented systems and ensuring all building services (BMS, CCTV, access control) run securely over a single, managed platform.

Key features include:

  • Access to plug and play ISP services via traditional ground fibre and wireless provision with no requirement for individual ISP wayleaves.
  • Occupier connectivity hosted from two securely housed and monitored communications rooms, providing resilient connectivity to all occupiers.
  • Securely managed, resilient communications entry locations.
  • Wireless ISP optionality.
  • Full common area Wi-Fi, enabling seamless guest, staff and tenant connectivity.
  • WiredScore Platinum certification.

Smart, sustainable and future-ready

103 Colmore Row is not just Birmingham’s tallest office building – it’s also one of its most tenant friendly, intelligent and sustainable:

  • BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and EPC ‘A’ rated.
  • Connected to Birmingham’s District Energy Scheme, the building utilises low and zero-carbon technologies.
  • Integrated smart app (Cureoscity) offers contactless access, meeting room bookings, real time travel updates and energy performance data for tenants
  • The app provides the on-site management team with real-time data on building usage and energy consumption, enhancing operational efficiency
  • Managed flexible workspace (x+why) and exclusive occupier amenities including the Eighteen members’ club and top-floor restaurant with panoramic views.

What the client said:

“We couldn’t be more delighted with everything the Node team have done here at 103. The building is a better place for it. We look forward to continuing to work together here and on our future projects.”
